the dumpy level, a instrument of a surveyor which has a small telescope fix to the top of horizontal rotating table that's on top of a tripod. the dumpy can be used to take levels of vertical points of a non existing house and boundaries on property's. but when there's more then the amount of people using the dumpy it can be really confusing due to more then one reader (who looks through the dumpy to take measurement), instructions on how the level rod held in position (eg some one that aint doing the reading giving instructions) and/or the recorder is not paying attention. first of all to fix the problem make sure there's only 2people doing this, one reader who can also record the data, so there is no mistake on the measurement's taken down, and one person that holds the level rod in it's position. there's time's when you have to tell the level rod holder to stand it in the right position. this can be very confusing on giving directions. best way i reckon is to point the way you(reader) in the direction you would like it to go.
Hi Case
What can go wrong when using a dumpy and why is important to record and format data? -Campbell
